Privacy and Access to Information

District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) is committed to its responsibilities regarding the protection of privacy and access to information in its custody and control.

DSB1 collects, uses and discloses personal information in accordance with several legislations, including the Education Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), and the Child and Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA).

There are many ways to obtain general information about the Board:

Freedom of Information (FOI) Request

An FOI request is a formal request for access to information made under MFIPPA.

Access to Yours or Your Child's Personal Information

Students, parents and guardians can request access to their personal information held by the Board. Click here for a full list of DSB1 schools.

Please be aware that while an individual has access rights to their own personal information and general records, they do not have access rights to information about other individuals.

While a student is under the age of 18 and not living independently, the parent or guardian retains a right of access to their child’s Ontario Student Record (OSR). The school will provide you with the information you request if you are legally entitled to receive a copy of it.

You also have the right to request correction of any personal information you believe to be inaccurate.
