Dual Credits
The Dual Credit program allows students to take college or apprenticeship courses while still in secondary school. Students can earn credit(s) that count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree, or apprenticeship certification.
The program encourages students to complete their secondary school education and consider post-secondary education. It provides opportunities to explore career interests and supports successful transitions to college and apprenticeship programs.
Who Might Consider the Dual Credit Program?
The Dual Credit Program is intended to encourage students working toward their OSSD to explore a postsecondary pathway.
- Students at risk of not graduating with their OSSD
- Students enrolled in a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)
- Students in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
- Early school leavers under age 21 near completion of their diploma

Program Offerings
Dual Credit program offerings are determined annually.
Instructor Taught Dual Credit
A dual credit taught solely by a Northern College instructor during the day or after school at a secondary school or college campus.
Team Taught Model
Courses are taught by both a secondary teacher and a Northern College instructor. Students attend classes twice a week and earn dual credits simultaneously as a secondary school course.
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) Level 1
Students are enrolled in a dual credit program leading to an apprenticeship.

OYAP Level 1 with Oversight
Students complete an apprenticeship-focused dual credit program with oversight.
OYAP Level 1 with Oversight
SHSM Dual Credits
Single dual credits support Specialist High Skills Major programs.
College Connections Programs
Designed as a re-engagement strategy for disengaged students. Students take at least one dual credit.
